Our adoption story (aka. a happy tail):

It all started with our 8-year-old daughter asking if we could “get a dog” for what seemed like the hundredth time, but this time it was different. It was the right time. My husband and I had been discussing getting a dog for many years but wanted to wait until we had a family and our children grew up enough to be able to help with walks not to mention understand and appreciate what it meant to care for an animal, a new member of the family. We knew we always wanted a Weimaraner and knew we wanted to adopt. With so many dogs needing loving homes, we knew it was the only logical decision for us. We had no idea that we would be so unbelievably blessed with such a beautiful affectionate family dog, already grown out of the demanding puppy stage and fully trained by the clearly loving family that, due to a change in circumstances, had to reluctantly give her up. It brings tears to my eyes to think about how difficult the decision must of been for the family Carmen came from, not only when I read the beautiful letter that accompanied our new family member on her day of adoption but as I write this today knowing our amazing dog is so special and well-adjusted because of the love she has always experienced. If there is any chance that her previous family may have a chance to read this, thank-you so much. You have given us an unbelievable gift that has changed our lives. In just three weeks, Carmen has completely stolen our hearts and fits into our family perfectly as though she has always been part of us.

Here’s what the children that Carmen now lives with said about their new family member;

• “She’s awesome. Yep, I love her. I like it best when she kisses my face.” (quote from a 4-year-old)

• “What I love best is I love to cuddle with her, take her for walks, give her treats and snuggle on the couch with her.” (quote from an 8-year-old)

Lastly, we would like to send our warmest thanks to Sonia of the Weimaraner Association. I am so grateful her hours of time over the phone with and for the time she shared, away from her own dogs and family, on a Sunday morning to allow our family the opportunity to adopt Carmen. We are also greatly appreciate Sonia’s time and effort to not only find a wonderful dog for our family but, more importantly, to have taken the steps to ensure that we were the best match for Carmen’s needs. She is such a happy dog and has easily adjusted to our home. From off-leash walks (yes, already!!), running in park, meeting other dogs and children in the neighbourhood during trips to the nearby school, to simply wiggling her head onto our laps and snuggling on the couch on a movie night. She is perfect. She is still with a loving family and we are honoured to be sharing our lives with her.
